June
June was another amazing month in Room 1 (Miharo)
We watched the Bike container being shifted by a huge crane. We are going to put Art (Nga Toi) all over it and make it a feature of our school.
We were involved in the Preschool opening. Room 1 helped make pizzas for the kai and sung waiata after the speeches.
We had the Duffy Theatre visit and got our Duffy books. We learnt Te Reo Kori with Sport HB and went in an Interschool Te Reo Kori tournament with lots of other schools.
We went in a Hakinakina Rippa Rugby tournament with other schools. We won lots of games.
We Skyped Mr Twinn at his Dad’s place in Scotland. We all asked him questions and showed him pictures. He sent us photos too.
It was 10.30pm at night over there and 9.30am in the morning in NZ.

May
May saw Mr Twinn, Student Teacher and Matua Torp as part of Room 1.
We had lots of adventures and learning. We were involved in lots of fun things.
We shared some of our experiences through ,Write about it and Book Creator ipad apps.
Some of those connections, which is what our Inquiry is about this term,
were our trip to Mr McFarlane’s farm where we saw sheep, cows ,bulls and a helicopter.
Seeing Whaea Anne and Harold the giraffe in the Life Education truck taught us
about not bullying and being nice to others.
We had an artist Matua Brandon Blair who came to school to talk about that and get us to draw posters too.
We learnt about and practised using our WITS (Walk away, Ignore, Tell someone eg a teacher
and make a Statement eg ‘Stop it ,I don’t like it.”) from Mrs Bennett.
Some students made connections with Matua Manu and did Nga Toi, making kowhaiwhai patterns on rocks.
We made other connections with the Preschool, Mrs Donaldson, the librarian, our whanau,
Mr Twinn, Matua Torp, our buddies from other classes eg Buddy reading and sharing in oral language in R1,
and Greg Murphy a formula 1 racing car driver (Whaea Monique-student teacher in R2s husband),
who came to school to speak to us and show us all his racing gear. Hohepa tried on his $5,000 helmet.
We also had a school party to say goodbye to Mr Twinn
and Whaea Monique who had been student teachers at our school for 7 weeks.
It was sad to see them go.We hope they come back and visit us.
One of our biggest connections was using Skype. We connected to Mr Twinn’s Dad in Scotland.
It was 10.30pm at night over there and 9.30am in the morning in NZ.
He showed us the model planes that he flies and that we had seen on videos on youtube.
He also showed us a picture of Mr Twinn as a little boy.
We showed him the planes that we had made and sung him our new Riverslea song and Tutira Mai Nga Iwi.
We liked it when the circus came to visit us too. The performers could do all sorts of tricks.
